IVF Cost

In vitro fertilization (IVF) can increase the chances of pregnancy and live birth, but some people worry about the cost.

Drs. Nurit Winkler and Marc Kalan can discuss your concerns and find ways to make fertility services more affordable.

Come to our fertility clinics serving Encino, Bakersfield, and Los Angeles, CA, to find out how much an IVF cycle will cost you.

How Much Does IVF Cost?

IVF costs can be difficult to generalize since each treatment is unique to the reproductive needs of the individual patient. On average, one cycle of IVF treatment can run $7,000 to $14,000.

These fees typically cover the costs of the IVF procedure (retrieving eggs, inseminating eggs, and placing them into the uterus), as well as lab work, ultrasounds, embryo storage, and anesthesia.

Does Insurance Cover IVF?

Generally, no. Insurance companies may cover some forms of fertility testing and evaluation, but it's rare that that insurance will cover the cost of IVF treatment.

Factors That Affect IVF Pricing

Fertility Medications Used

The amount and types of medication required throughout IVF treatment will vary from patient to patient. These drugs help with egg production, follicle growth, and other aspects of reproduction.

Types of Tests Performed

Patients who undergo IVF will need to have fertility tests, genetic tests, and other forms of testing performed throughout the IVF treatment process.

Working with a Surrogate

If surrogacy is required to carry an embryo to term, the cost of IVF can increase to anywhere between $50,000 and $100,000 in order to compensate the surrogate.

Use of Donor Eggs or Sperm

When using donor eggs or sperm in an IVF cycle, cost factors, including donor compensation, need to be considered.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

In order to address poor sperm motility, our fertility doctors can perform ICSI to ensure fertilization. This procedure typically adds $1,000 to $2,500 to the overall treatment cost.

Fertility Preservation

Viable eggs or embryos from an IVF cycle may be preserved for later use. The cost of cryopreservation can vary. We can discuss freezing eggs or embryos during your consultation.

Cost-Saving Options

While most insurance plans do not cover IVF, some parts of the procedure (monitoring or medications, for example) may be fully covered or partially covered. Our financial department can help you navigate your insurance policy and may be able to find some coverage for the infertility services you require.

Is IVF Worth the Cost?

Offering Patients Hope

If you are unable to have a baby because of your struggles with infertility, IVF treatment may be the right option to experience the joys of pregnancy, childbirth, and raising a child.

Investing in Your Family

It's difficult to put a price on building a family. For many of our patients, having a child of their own after struggling with infertility is priceless.

If you've wanted to have a child, our fertility specialists can answer any questions you may have about IVF treatment and if the benefits are worth the price tag.
