Reciprocal IVF is a type of IVF treatment in which one partner acts as the egg source and the other as the carrier. During this process, the first partner will undergo egg retrieval. Those eggs will then be fertilized using donor sperm, and the selected embryo or embryos will be transferred into the uterus of the second partner.
Choosing a Sperm Donor
Since this process relies on sperm donation to fertilize the egg, many patients choose a donor through one of our trusted partner agencies. However, if you have a loved one who you would like to be your donor, that is also a viable option.
Is Reciprocal IVF Right for Me?
We often recommend reciprocal IVF for lesbian couples who wish to have both a genetic and physical connection to their child. It may also be an option for transgender men, prior to gender affirming surgery. If you choose this treatment, you can then conceive using the embryo created with your eggs and your partner or a gestational surrogate will be the carrier.
